Dispute Resolution

DISPUTE RESOLUTION PROCEDURE

PREAMBLE

Each one of the members of the Management Committee of Clifton Benchrest Shooting Club Inc is a volunteer who is already giving significant time to the Club. A good grievance procedure will reflect the realistic time needed to address a grievance. It can also help to maintain the present harmonious association of Members and Management of the Club.

  1. This document sets out the procedure for resolution of any potential dispute that may arise between a member and the Club, with respect to the operation of the Club and/or the implementation of the Club’s policies and procedures.

  2. If an issue or dispute arises, the member will, in the first instance, raise the matter with the Range Officer on duty.

    1.  If the Range Officer on duty cannot resolve the matter satisfactorily after consulting the Range Officer manual, the Range Officer will raise the matter with the Captain of whichever shooting discipline the matter falls under.

    2.  If the relevant Captain cannot resolve the matter satisfactorily, he will forward details of the matter to the Management Committee.

  3. The member may appoint any person to act on their behalf in the grievance procedure.

  4. A formal grievance procedure cannot be started by a member regarding a matter for which the member has been subject to disciplinary action or for which a disciplinary procedure or investigation is ongoing.

  5. The Management Committee will allow each party involved an opportunity to be heard at a meeting to be held at a mutually agreed time.

  6. If the parties are unable to resolve the dispute at the meeting, the parties will within 10 days hold a meeting in the presence of a mediator.

  7. The mediator must

    1. be an unbiased person chosen by agreement between the parties; and

    2. not be a party to the dispute.

  8. The mediator can be an unbiased member of the Club.

  9. The parties to the dispute must, in good faith, attempt to settle the dispute by mediation.

  10. If this fails, the outcome of the dispute will be decided by an unbiased person appointed to do so by mutual agreement between the parties.

  11. The appointed unbiased person’s decision on the matter will be final and binding.
