STANDING ORDERS

EMERGENCY PROCEDURE

In the event of an emergency, everyone on the range is to make their way to the shotgun shaded area, the “Emergency Assembly Area”, and await further instructions.

The First Aid Kit is located next to the refrigerator in the Clubhouse.

 

GENERAL

• It is the responsibility of all Members to make themselves familiar with these Standing Orders.

• All persons attending the range MUST always follow the directions of the Range Officer.

• The Range Officer’s authority is absolute and final.

• The Range Officer may vary these Standing Orders at any time to accommodate special circumstances provided such variations do not compromise shooter safety or Range integrity.

• Each and every individual attending this Range complex is responsible for his/her own individual Personal Protection Equipment. Ear plugs are available from front counter at no cost.

• Enclosed footwear MUST be worn when attending the firing line.

• Only .22 rifles and Centrefire rifles, Shotguns to be fired at this Range, .22 Rifles and Centrefire rifles to be fired from the benched firing line.

• Any pistol used at the Range is to be no larger than .45 calibre.

• We have a NO HOLSTER policy so holster cannot be used.

• Only .22 rimfire ammunition is to be used in the bullet catchers. All other rimfire ammunition, .22 Magnum, .17 Cal has to be shot with the bullet catchers laid down or alternatively off bench 11 which has the open target frame. The spare bullet catchers at the side of the Range to be used for pistol shooting (rimfire only) when required.

•  NOTE The maximum size rifle to be shot is described to not exceed velocity of 3275 feet per second.

• Smoking is not allowed within 3 metres of the Clubhouse. Smoking is permitted behind the firing line but not at the benches. If there are any children under 16 years of age at the covered firing line, smoking is not allowed.

• No alcohol is to be consumed anywhere on the Range while the Range is open for shooting.

• Minors MUST always be accompanied by, and be under the direct control of, a responsible adult.

• Report identified hazards to designated personnel.

 

ARRIVAL PROCEDURES

• Before a person discharges a weapon at the Laurie Bowe Rifle Range, the person must:

1. if the person is a licensee, produce the person’s licence to a Range Officer at the Range, and

2. enter in the Range Use Register the details required in that Register.

• Firearms being taken from vehicles to the covered firing line MUST be made safe (action broken/open, ammunition and magazine removed, and magazine empty).

 

HIRE OF CLUB FIREARMS

• All persons using Club firearms MUST sign the Group Licence Register which is then endorsed by the Representative or delegate.

• If multiple persons share one Club firearm, each user MUST separately complete the Group Licence Register.

• On return of each Club firearm, it MUST be signed back in to the Group Licence Register by the Representative or delegate.

• The storage, possession and use of all Club firearms are the sole responsibility of the Group Licence Representative.

 

ON THE COVERED FIRING LINE

• The Range Officer’s name/s MUST be displayed on the notice board on the covered firing line.

• All metal targets MUST be at least 25 (twenty five) metres in front of the firing line except when firing copper-jacketed projectiles at metal targets, in which case, the metal targets MUST be at least 50 (fifty) metres in front of the firing line.

• Firearms with compensators/muzzle brakes MUST be approved by the Range Officer who will allocate a bench and who will warn those on adjoining benches.

• No shooting is allowed without an authorised Range Officer in attendance on the covered firing line.

• Firearms are only to be discharged from the firing line.

• The backstop MUST be behind the line of fire at all times.

• No person, other than the Range Officer, may touch a firearm belonging to another person without the owner’s express permission.

• With a stuck live round, no attempt is to be made to remove it from the firearm while it is on the Range. The Range Officer is to make the firearm as safe as possible before bagging and removing it from the covered firing line.

• Malfunctions of Club firearms MUST be immediately reported to the Range Officer without any attempt being made to rectify the malfunction.

• Before being removed from the firing line, all firearms MUST be inspected by the Range Officer to ensure they have been made safe (action broken/open, bolt removed, ammunition and magazine removed, and magazine empty).

• When not in use all firearms MUST be made in a safe condition (action broken/open, bolt removed, ammunition and magazine removed, and magazine empty).

• Magazines are only to be loaded when at a shooting bench.

• Magazines, whether loaded or empty, can only be loaded into firearms when at a shooting bench.

• No firearm may be loaded until the shooter is in place at a shooting bench and the Range Officer has given the order to “Load Your Weapon”.

 

CEASE FIRE PROCEDURES

• The Range Officer will advise shooters five (5) minutes before a Cease Fire is due to be called.

• At all times, PRECISELY follow the Range Officer’s instructions, whose authority is absolute and final.

• Once the Range Officer calls “Cease Fire”, no firearm may be discharged.

• Once a “Cease Fire” has been called, the Range Officer will check every firearm to ensure all have been made safe (action broken/open, bolt removed, ammunition and magazine removed, and magazine empty), before allowing anyone forward of the firing line.

UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES ARE ANY FIREARMS TO BE HANDLED IN THE COVERED FIRING LINE AREA WHEN A “CEASE FIRE” HAS BEEN CALLED.

• No Firearms may be handled again until the Range Officer calls the “Range Open”.

 

POST-SHOOTING PROCEDURES

• ONLY the Range Officer on the covered firing line can sign the shooter’s Pistol Participation Card AFTER the shooter has shot.

• Before being removed from the covered firing line all firearms MUST be inspected by the Range Officer to ensure they have been made safe (action broken/open, bolt removed, ammunition and magazine removed, and magazine empty), before being removed from the covered firing line.

• Each shooter must retrieve all their spent brass and dispose of it in the recycling bins or in another appropriate way.

• All rubbish, including empty ammunition boxes, barrel cleaning materials etc. are to be disposed of appropriately.
