Range Etiquette

RANGE ETIQUETTE

This information is prepared for CBSC Inc. Members so they may be aware of the required Club protocols, required behaviour and mandatory and regulatory rules. Please also refer to the Standing Orders CBSCInc.030.

EMERGENCY PROCEDURE

In the event of an emergency, everyone on the range is to make their way to the shotgun shaded area, the Emergency Assembly Area, and await further instructions. The First Aid Kit and Defibrillator machine are located next to the refrigerator in the Clubhouse.

 

1. Range Rules & General Rules

1.1 All shooters (including club members) must report to the Office on arrival, sign in and pay fees. You must have your current Weapons Licence/Photo ID with you.

1.2 You must leave your firearms in your vehicle until you have signed in, etc. Only then may you take your firearms to the covered firing line i.e. ONLY the club-owned firearms (that are available for hire) are allowed in the club house.   

1.3 All Range Officers must report to the Office on arrival and present their current Firearms Licence when signing in.

1.4 All other visitors must report to the Office on arrival and present their current and approved form of photo ID (e.g. Passport, Driver Licence) when signing in. Information will be held in accordance with the national Privacy Act 1988. See oaic.gov.au for full details.

 

    1. All shooters must be under the supervision of a non-shooting Range Officer.

1.6  All persons must obey the instructions and directions of the Range Officers.

1.7  Children must always be accompanied by, and be under the direct supervision of, a responsible adult when on-site.

     1.8 Smoking is prohibited within 3 metres of any entrance to the Clubhouse.

1.9 Anyone considered to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs will not be permitted on the Range.

1.10 Skateboards, rollerblades, scooters, bicycles are not permitted to be used on the Range.

1.11 Leashed dogs are not permitted on the grounds, unless they are authorised assistance dogs.

1.12 No person may enter or leave the Range with a loaded firearm.

1.13 No person may handle a firearm unless they hold a current Weapons Licence or are under the supervision of a Range Officer and have signed in appropriately.

1.14 No visitor may go beyond the equipment bench unless accompanied by a Range Officer.

1.15 All potentially hazardous situations must be reported immediately to the Range Officer.

1.16 Hearing protection must be worn on the firing line.

1.17 Shooters and visitors should familiarise themselves with the location of the First Aid Kit and evacuation procedures.

1.18 Firearms must not be left unattended and any found not appropriately attended or secured will be removed from the Range and secured by the Range Officers.

    1. All wildlife is protected and cannot be injured in any way. Any wildlife within the Centre must be reported to the Shooting Club staff for appropriate removal and re-location.

2. Shooting Range Rules

2.1 Only approved calibres and loads may be used on the Range in accordance with the Qld Police Shooting Range Approval. Any queries regarding approved calibres and loads should be referred to Range Officers.

2.2 Only approved matches and appropriate targets may be used in accordance with the Qld Police Shooting Range Approval (No. 81001637).

2.3  No firearm may be loaded until the shooter is in place at the firing line and directed to do so by a Range Officer.

    1.  At all times, while loaded, the firearm shall point down Range.
    2. At all times, while loaded, the firearm shall be under the control of the user.
    3. When not at the firing line, the firearm must be unloaded at all times.
    4. At the completion of shooting, the firearm must be immediately unloaded.
    1. No person may touch a firearm belonging to another person without that person’s express permission and without being appropriately licenced.
    2. The Range Officer will make sure that an Empty Chamber Indicator (ECI) is available for every firearm on the firing line. Once a “Range Closed” has been called and everyone is behind the yellow line, the Range Officer will check every firearm to ensure all have been made safe (action broken/open, bolt removed, ammunition and magazine removed and magazine empty, ECI inserted in the chamber) before the Range Officer allows anyone forward of the firing line.
    3.  No person on the firing line shall touch a firearm (or any part of a firearm) whilst any other person is forward of the firing line.
    4.  All personal belongings must be stored away from the firing line.

2.12 All malfunctions must be reported immediately to the Range Officer, including misfires, when a mandatory 30 seconds will elapse before attempting to eject the unfired round.

      2.13  Eye protection must be worn when shooting handguns.

2.14 Covered footwear must be worn on the Range whilst shooting.

3.   Rifles

  1. 3.1 Shooters can prepare their single shot rifles for shooting on the bench behind the firing line if they have a safety flag inserted into the rifle. This includes:
    1. Putting on cheek pieces
    2. Adjusting the stock
    3. Putting the firearm together
    4. Putting on sights
    5. Adjusting the firearm between stages.

3.2  Shooters who have rifles with magazines are not permitted to assemble firearms at the rear of the range. Assembly of rifles with magazines must be done at the firing line.

 

4. Handguns

4.1  You must leave your handguns in your vehicle until you have signed in, etc.  Only then may you take your handguns to the covered firing line i.e. ONLY the club-owned firearms (that are available for hire) are allowed in the club house.

4.2  Handguns must be taken to the line in a bag or box, then taken out at the shooting bench. Place your empty handgun case next to your shooting position or beside your chair.

4.3  Any cases that contain a handgun/s must be in the bay with you (you may put your case on the bench and use it to rest on).

4.4  All benchrest target boxes must be removed prior to shooting handguns to ensure they are not damaged.

 

5. Cleaning of Firearms

    1. Designated cleaning areas have been established at the bench behind the range.
    2. Firearms may also be cleaned on any of the Benchrest benches.

6. Post-shooting Procedures

    1. Sweep up your brass and place in the marked recycling bins provided.
    2. Return any rests to the Rest Bin.
    3. Place rubbish in the bins provided.
    4. Clear the target on your shooting lane.

7. Dress and behavioural codes

    1. Participants will NOT be allowed to shoot if they are under the influence of alcohol, prohibited drugs or medication that impedes judgement.
    2. Secure footwear MUST be worn (no bare feet, thongs or sandals allowed).
